Animal Wednesday

World's largest cat spotted in Ohio

Weighing in at 23 pounds, the world's largest cat was recently spotted in a small town near Dayton, Ohio. This Maine Coon Cat , who goes by the name Rascal, apparently spends most of his time eating, sleeping and bird/squirrel watching at his perch by the back door, and has broken records for the fattest domestic cat known to man. "There's just not much to do around here in winter," says his owner, Kate. "His playmate, Stella, is even less active, although she has been able to keep her weight under control a little better. I think she does not snack between meals and watches her portions better. I try to get this one to run with me on the treadmill but so far that hasn't worked out too well." Who knows how much farther this can go? Maybe Jenny Craig has a program for overweight pets.
"Hello, Jenny?"

How funny. My cat is balooning up too all of a sudden. I dont know what she weighs but she is getting almost to heavy to lift. I was thinking of rationing her food. Goodness. Cute picture.

Cute post. I had a friend with a MC cat and he always looked so big to me. Maybe its just the breed.

That is one big kitty. What fun to have a couple of furry critters like this to keep you company. Beautiful creature this one. I might suggest Weight Watchers instead of JC. It works for me. ;)

With one obese cat myself, and knowing how hard and long it takes to get the pounds off...if I don't, he will be at risk for developing diabetes. In a house of active, svelte cats, it is evident that he doesn't exercise and run like they do, but sits like a lump watching from the sidelines. I am supposed to be exercising him 15 minutes twice a day (laser light up and down the stairs) but often only fit in 5 minutes...I am not a very good personal trainer, am I?!

with two cats it must be hard to control the amount of food in the bowl. It was so for me with two and emily was overweight but I think I killed her by doing a diet plan via Vets because I went away and forgot to tell my son to only give the diet food mixed with regular food.

he was lazy and didnt refill the regular food tin can and just fed them the diet food and E. lost too much weight. However, Bibs ate it and lived.

But i will never buy cat diet food or do a diet thing again. Bibs doesnt need it anyway.

What a Gorgeous Boy he is!
And he fits so well into your color scheme there.
My Mom's MC was huge like this,,,overweight too,,but she claimed he was 'just fluffy'.
:-)
I think I'd give Rascal that same label,,,and just let him be happy.

That is so cute! How about weight watchers for cats since they are a little bit pickier about food. Too funny!

katie, here's a link for you which make SO much sense on how to reduce a cat's weight and WHY they're so fat to begin with.

A year ago December I almost lost my cat Bliss. (Remember those posts?) Anyway, she was nearly 22 pounds and now she's around 15 pounds and doing great.

We can't reduce cats the way we can dogs or people. Lestening their calories too fast can prove fatal.

Go to catinfo.org and read every page. it's enlightening!

Good luck. fat cats are cute but major illness can follow :(

Wonderful comments here....I know Maine Coon's ARE bigger than most cats....a friend of mine had two...and they are HUGE! At night, when they decide to *gallop* around the house....it really sounds like a herd of Buffalo!

That being said, diet is important.... and like we humans....it's all about portion size!
