No big fancy painting today. Just a few sketches from my garden journal. I spent yesterday in the yard weeding and doing a few transplants and simply enjoying the delicious weather we are having here. This has been the absolute best winter and spring that I can remember for a long time.
My Japanese lilac bush blooming next to my shed is just bursting with blooms and is so fragrant that I can smell it halfway down my driveway. When the windows are open and the wind blows just right the fragrace fills up my kitchen. Purely divine.
I don't know what kind of flowers these are but I just love how they are so dainty and tiny. I found them growing in little clumps along an unused side of my house and moved them to the fairy garden I am working on in the backyard. I noticed when I dug them up that they have bulbs but I can't find them in any of my garden books. Their leaves look like blades of grass with a thin lighter green stripe down the middle. Any guesses?
And my Nellie Moser clematis has burst into bloom along the side of the Sunflower Cottage. The blossom is actually pink with white edges but I had a hard time with that, working so tiny. So much to see, so much to sketch.
Now I have to get back to my house cleaning. My good friend Millie is coming to visit for the weekend and I got so carried away cleaning that I even washed the cat!

Your poor cat probably wonders what in the world is going on. tee hee... Love your sketches. I know what those little star flowers are. Hmmmm Star of Bethlehem I think. They are quite invasive once they get going. I have them in my garden and I didn't even plant them. Some people love them some people hate them. Just keep an eye on them. Nellie isn't blooming in my garden just yet. Soon though because she has buds.
Have a great weekend.
Thanks Lisa! I knew I could count on you to know this flower. I kept thinking, 'star - something, starflower' but I couldn't find it in my books or on the Internet. I believe you are right. I like that they spread. I want to fill an area underneath a large tree.
I'm glad someone knew that flower! I was gonna suggest some type of crocus...lol...
Just love your sketches. You are so talented! My grandmother had a wysteria vine trained into a bush in her yard and when it bloomed her whole house smelled of wysteria. Its actually a lovely memory that i treasure. Thanks for the tour of your wonderful yard....OOOooo a fairy garden!! Hugs! deb
Lovely journal page. Glad Lisa knew too. We FINALLY got a nice day today. Sunshine and warmth. I was out planting some pots full of Wave petunias. Soon I can plant more pots up. I can just see me washing the cat. NOT. lol. but speaking of which..it IS a warm enough day to bathe Annie outside. thanks for the reminder. Have a fun visit. :)
Deb, there is a house here in town that has wisteria hanging off its front porch and it is so lovely - but so invasive! I'll sketch the fairy garden later on when things get growing better.
Cris, my cats are so easy to wash. They just stand in the bathtub while I do the work, much like washing a dog. Glad you are having some nice weather so you can plant. I'll be looking forward to seeing what you put in. Pansies, I know for sure!
Beautiful pages Katie, just beautiful. Spring has really arrived.
wow - you are way ahead of us - we just have daffodils growing and azaleas blooming but that's all so far.
love your pages, so pretty and spring like
You live in one very very beautiful place...and your journal pages are quite the diary of this proof! Love all the details.
Ornithogalum umbellatum also called Star-of-Bethlehem, Grass Lily, Nap-at-Noon or Eleven-o'clock Lady I think.
I have them in my garden as well.
Lovely pages Kate! It seems like the perfect place to be right now!
Here it is too cold. After the lovely weather I had in my first week of the holiday it turned cold and not so sunny......... what a pity but in May the forecasts look better.
Have a lovely sunday! Enjoy your garden and the weather♥
I love these illustrations~
